GW last day of first grade.....

Man oh man where has the time gone?  It seems like just yesterday I was walking GW up to his first day of preschool and now he has completed his last day of 1st grade.  This year has had many ups and downs for GW as far as school goes.  We have gotten several emails from the teacher saying that he was getting in trouble for doing different things.  The things that he got in trouble for were anywhere from jumping out and scaring a kid in the hallway to saying inappropriate things to try to be funny.  For a while we seemed to get emails quite regularly saying that he was not acting mature or listening very well, but hey, he doesn’t listen at home so what is the difference?  At least he is consistent….LOL.

GW is definitely a kid that decides that he is going to do what he wants when he wants and if you tell him to do something he never does it right away it has to have at least a minute in between us asking and him doing.  I even noticed one day when I went to school that his teacher asked him to put his name on his paper, instead of doing it right away he waited (about a minute) and then he put his name on the paper.  You would almost guess that he is a little slow which is not the case at all.  Actually he is very smart.  He could probably drive you to every town around us without even asking for directions, that is if he knew how to drive.  He knows all his birds, trucks (how many kids know what a dually is?), campers, how to read, how to add and subtract, how to write sentences, how to correct sentences, he knows more about history then I ever knew or will ever know-ask him questions about presidents and he can probably tell you quite a few presidents and something significant about each one of them.

Even though you don’t think that he is listening or paying attention he is and he don’t miss a beat.

He loves spending time with his grandpa, they ride bikes, they garden, they watch birds, they make birdhouses (that’s what he calls them anyways), they rodatill gardens, you name it they do it…grandpa has more energy than both mom and dad put together to keep up with everything GW makes him do.  I asked GW one day when grandpa gets too old are you going to mow for him and he said grandpa will never get old!!

GW is looking very forward to the summer this year.  He loves to camp, ride bikes, swim and spend time outdoors.  He also loves to ride his four wheeler.  That seems to not be working right now but GW reminds dad every day that he needs to get it fixed.

This summer GW will be going to daycare every day which will be a little bit different for him, since he is used to spending all of his free time with grandpa but we need to give grandpa some time to himself as we don’t want GW to wear him down.  Fridays GW and Lou will be going to grandpa and grandmas for the day so they will get a little bit of a break from routine and they will look forward to that every week.

I was reading another friends blog and she really made me think and be proud of my family.  Sometimes I feel like what did I get into and what do other people think about me and my kids and how they act…..they do get pretty unruly at times and hard to control but I realize that I’m not the only one.  My best friend and I talk on the phone at least once a week and we love it because our kids are always naughty in the background and we realize that we are not alone we just have to laugh at each other.  If anyone thinks that their kids never acted this way or were perfect then I want to know where they got their perfect parenting habits and can you teach me instead of criticize me?  Did both parents work full time and have 3 kids in 4 years.  I realize that it was my choice and I would never change a thing because I love each one of my kids and they will always be close (I hope) and always have someone to play with.  I am going to steal something that she said in her blog because it really hit close to home and it the honest truth and this really sums it up……

The grass is not greener on the other side....it's brown and full of dandelions just like ours.  But it's our grass and we love it!-Danae’
