What a weekend......

Friday night we had decided to go have a nice family dinner at the Texas Roadhouse so we got there about 5 so we wouldn’t have to wait for long, we waited about 15 minutes and went to our table, sat down talked to my cousin that is a waitress for about 30 seconds, the waiter was taking our drink order when all of a sudden Mae started screaming at the top of her lungs.  I then heard DW say “Oh my God!!”  I knew that it was bad without even looking.  When I did look over there was blood dripping and pumping out of Mae’s right ring finger.  I immediately grabbed a cloth napkin applied pressure and when I went to peek again to see what it looked like blood started pulsating out of there again, so I quickly reapplied the cloth napkin.  About that time my cousin came over and asked if everything was okay, I told her that we needed to go as DW was standing up trying to clean up the blood….she told us just go, don’t worry about it they would get it cleaned up.  So we rushed out of the restaurant as fast as we could which was difficult because that place is always so packed that you have to push your way through people.

DW dropped me off at the ER door and I took her in, luckily they were not very busy so the doctor was able to look at it right away.  He said that it was defiantly going to need a stitch…..little did I know that a stitch could mean 6 stitches.  It was very hard to be in the room when they were working on her little finger when they gave her the numbing shot it was terrible….I think she cried harder when they did that then when the cut actually happened.

GW was having a very difficult time with the whole situation because he was sitting by his sister when it happened.  He cried and he cried and I bet he told her that he was sorry 100 times.  He refused to come into the hospital.  DW literally had to peel him out of the Yukon to get him out, then when he came in his eyes were so red and puffy at that point I don’t know who I felt more sorry for Mae or GW….We just kept explaining that accidents happen and it was no one’s fault.  On Saturday he told Mae that he was sorry again and she said “that’s fine.”  At this point I think that it made him feel a lot better about the whole situation.

When we were in the hospital I asked GW and Lou what we have learned from this and Lou said, “Daddy will always butter our buns.”  I then asked her well what about mommy and she said, “No you are a little young yet.”  It cracked me up.

It has really opened our eyes a lot with how quickly something can happen.  We are going to contact the restaurant and let them know what happened because we don’t want anyone else to have to go through this and we hope that they take our advice and make it a little safer as it is a very popular family restaurant.
